If you ever wanted some perspective, a way to really beat down the ego, look no further than Jakub Polomski’s series of images, The Scale of Nature, which takes your problems and self-importance and grinds it all into a fine dust when viewed in comparison with, well, reality. The photographs, done in an icy blue monochrome, feature hikers trekking through the snow-covered mountains of Poland, surrounded by nothing but jagged peaks and endless valleys of white. And so, the next time you’re waiting in 50-deep line of New Yorkers all frantically buying non-perishables for impending storms that never actually come, just think of how small that presently massive irritation is when placed alongside or within the context of any of the shots seen below.
